Changelog (Build 2.0)

It's been a hot minute, hasn't it? I managed to hold off updating the game until the SS Yamato was ready for launch, which I still believe was the right choice, even if I noticed a pretty huge bug right after launching the last build (more on that in a bit). Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy continuing the story of Starboard! Here's a list of what I've added/changed:

Changelog (Build 2.0):

- Introducing: The SS Yamato, the next major story arc of One Piece: Starboard!! Explore a vast marketplace, meet several new characters (including a new crew member), and face off against the Namakubi Pirates in their natural environment. Tread lightly however, as the Oyabun won't go down without a fight...

- On top of the Windows version, a MacOS and dedicated web browser/mobile version of the most recent build will now be up for download whenever a new one comes out! Apologies if there have been any Mac users who haven't been able to download and play the game in the past

- Changed the title theme to a familiar tune...

- Multiplied the game's economy by 10 to make the value of berries more accurate to their value in the original One Piece

- Added several new techniques learnable through leveling up your party members. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what those techniques are ;)

- Removed the Shield and Body equipment categories entirely, as they kinda pointlessly complicate the project for the time being and don't fit with my vision of the characters

- Renamed the Head equipment category to simply "clothing", so it now fits with any type of additional clothing for the characters

- Renamed the "Dead" state to "Unconscious". Get real

- Renamed the Magic Water item to "Soda", nerfed it from recovering 30MP to 25MP, lowered its price from 200 berries to 100, and made a new, stronger item with the original name (which you can find at the SS Yamato)

- Gave each technique your party members use a special message when they're performed, instead of just "(This person) uses (that technique)!"

- Changed the icon for Lora's Kickoff technique to clarify that she doesn't physically kick the enemy, but rather fires her Grugby ball at them

- Slightly modified the Shout technique's description

- Ever so slightly changed Asterism's item description

- Fixed an oversight where Ori isn't able to equip Asterism after discovering their powers. Yeah, this one was real dumb, and I discovered it mere moments after Build 1.3 came out

- Ori now stays classless in the period between picking up Asterism and learning of their powers, and has the same stats as afterwards. The original class I gave Ori in this scene was the Swordsman class, but when I added a new party member with this class into the game this update, they overlapped pretty significantly, and Ori could no longer equip Asterism, just like the problem I had with the Press-Press Fruit before this (I discovered this bug right as I was uploading the new builds to Itch. LOVE that)

- Nerfed Asterism's attack bonus from 12 to 9. Now that it could actually be equipped, Ori dealt more physical damage than Lora, which wasn't my intent

- Fixed an oversight where an anger balloon icon shows up above Ori instead of the intended Namakubi Grunt during the fight on Hayai Island

- Made several changes to the game's balance, including but not limited to fixing some broken stat curves, changing the likelyhood of certain effects, and altering characters' base stats ever so slightly

- Removed Ori's Leather Vest, compensating by increasing their Defense by 1. This item was an oversight from the original class that took the Press-Press Fruit's place in the code

- Increased the Stamina cost of Ori's Gravitas technique from 10 to 12

- Changed Gravitas's damage output from being dependent on physical attack to magic attack. Again, a complete oversight

- Captain Kylie and Warrant Officer Wakaba now drop 100 and 150 berries respectively

- Fixed a grammatical error after getting back from the stadium in Rabola. While inappropriately making the term "leave" past-tense sounds like something Ori could easily do, I decided to be a perfectionist here

- Fixed a rather significant oversight where a game over was triggered after the fight at the campsite on Rabola if Ori was defeated. This was caused by the fact that, in order to make the party members more expressive in scenes, I temporarily remove them from the party after some scripted fights and replace them with an identical character sprite which can move on command and use balloon icons. Therefore, if the only living party member after a fight is removed, the game counts it as you getting a game over. From now on, if they were knocked out, Ori will recover with 1HP after a scripted fight in order to hopefully keep this from happening (even when I don't remove party members, just for the sake of consistency)

- The wave background sounds will now stop playing when you enter Rabola Stadium
